A Little Bit About Whats to Follow

The following content, with exception of my GCSE final piece, is all work that I have created over the past two years doing Graphic Design at York college. I hope this gives you an insight into what my full portfolio looks like. I feel that studying at Manchester Metropolitan is a great opportunity for me and anyone in a creative field. I feel I have the potential to achieve high and I intend to do so. I have always been practical and problem solving from a young age and it has always followed me as well as a creative upbringing helping this allot, as my mother was a graphic designer, made leaded glass and is now a kitchen and bathroom designer and my dad started working at the railway and now owns his own metal and fabrications company. The chance to improve my skills and to learn brand new ones is invaluable to me. After completion of the course in intend to either already be in the industry or find a career in it immediately after. I am in particular looking forward to working with jewelry after making a simple silver ring in year ten, The delicacy attracted my perfectionist nature as well as designing and making furniture as I love nothing more than creating something that people will use and appreciate every day.
Thank you for taking your time to read this and to look through my online portfolio.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Anti-Smoking Posters

Here we have one of my pieces from my final project, a series of anti-smoking posters with an illustration of different body parts, above obviously is a heart with a simple, strongly worded caption.

Summer Holiday Work

Here is four extracts from the sketchbook I created over the summer 2010 before my second year that I later developed into my calendar

Calender

Our first project of the second year was to develop our summer work, which was a sketchbook to be filled of a subject of our choice, of which I chose York, after developing this we were assigned to create a final piece using our drawings and research on our subject. I chose to make a calendar, and here we have 4 of the 12 months as an example of my final piece.

New Scientist

This is the final project for the first year, we were briefed to create a front cover and contents page for a issue of 'New Scientist'.

Whitby Poem

Here is a small project we were given near the beginning of our first year of Graphic Design to write and illustrate a poem about the day we spent in Whitby as a class.

To Kill A Mockingbird

We were briefed to create a poster for a theatre production of 'To Kill a Mockingbird' for York Theatre Royal. Above is my final piece with eight of my layouts including the one I decided to develop and use. As you can see my final illustration is a dead bird shape made from Atticus Finch quotes.

Letterhead, Complements Slip and Business Card

I imagine this project is fairly self explanatory, however a brief outline; we were told to make up a company or shop and design a letterhead, complements slip and business card.

Word and Letter Project

In this short project we were assigned to choose a typeface and illustrate that chosen typeface. I chose a font I found online called Body Hunter.

Typographers Pages

Here we have two of my magazine spread style information sheets, on two typographers including information about each of them and illustrated with there own works.

York Minster Photograph

Above is a photograph of the York Minster that I took from the west side of the building, I then did a small amount of editing on photoshop, including making the entire picture grayscale and adjusting the brightness/contrast.

GCSE Resistant Materials

Here we have my GCSE final piece for Fulford school, we were given a digital clock no larger than my or your hand and was briefed to design and build something to contain the clock to make it marketable, however the catch that made this challenging was that the the back of the clock must be accessible due to the buttons that change the time being located there and the battery which will eventually need too be changed. when everyone else was building a clock that could fit in a foot and a half square box, I was being more adventures and ended up with a piece that when fully extended reached 5 and a half feet. To stabilize this I needed a heavy base so i used a hollow steel ball with a hole cut in to put in the pole, welded in, and sealed, with three small solid steel balls welded to the base of the hollow sphere. Being ambitious as I was meant I needed to spend all my lunchtimes in the workshop finishing my piece for almost a month, however this was well worth it to see the final result and to receive my A* for making.
